Super Study Aid

These Nutshells, in my opinion are one of the top two study aids on the market. This book will help you learn the broad concepts that the class is about before you have the actual class and begin the readings from the case book. Also, most of them aren't very long, so it makes a super refresher book before really starting to study for finals. Naturally, with free shipping, I think AMAZON is the best place to purchase them.

This book was really helpful during my open-note Crim Pro final. I had some multiple choice and true/false in addition to essays and some of the questions were directly answered by the book. It was also a good overview for some tricky subjects, really helped pull it all together.

SAYS 2011, BUT APPEARS TO BE THE 2006 EDITION

I just opened the cover, may be a great book, but in the preface it states "This text includes cases decided by [SCOTUS] through July, 2006, the conclusion of the October 2005 Term", though it's supposed to be a 2011 edition.

This might just be an error, or I might be overlooking something. When this if fixed, or there is another later preface also in the book, or the like, I have no problem with this post being deleted.

The 2006 Strategy differs from the 2003 version primarily in that it sets different priorities for the strategic elements designed to achieve its goals. Perhaps most significant of these differences is a major increase in emphasis on democratization as a method of combating terrorism.

Additionally, the 2006 strategy places greater emphasis on denying terrorists sanctuary in underdeveloped, failed, and rogue states. The use of economic and political tools to strengthen nations vulnerable to the spread of terrorist influence appears to receive less emphasis in the 2006 Strategy than in the 2003 version.
Inherent in the National Strategy are a number of issues for Congress. These include (1) democratization as a counterterrorism strategy; (2) the validity of the Strategy’ s assumptions about terrorists; (3) whether the Strategy adequately addresses the situation in Iraq including the U.S. presence there as a catalyst for international terrorism; (4) the Strategy’s effectiveness against rogue states; (5) the degree to which the Strategy addresses threats reflected in recent National Intelligence Estimates; (6) mitigating extremist indoctrination of the young; and (7) the efficacy of public diplomacy. To the degree that the 2006 National Strategy for Combating Terrorism may not adequately address the importance of these and other relevant factors, some adjustment of the strategy and its implementation may be warranted.

As Burney becomes a regular at the Streatham Park home of Henry and Hester Thrale, she is befriended by another regular visitior, Samuel Johnson, and given the opportunity to observe and record the playful and affectionate side of Johnson's character, a side largely missed by Boswell. Urged by the Streathamites to write a comedy for the London stage, she responds with 'The Witlings', a satiric portrait of London's bluestockings. Alarmed by the prospect of disapproval from the powerful bluestocking Elizabeth Montagu, Burney's father and her friend Samuel Crisp dissuade her from releasing the piece. Her disappointment is eased by the whirling social life that she enjoys in the company of the Thrales at Streatham and at Brighton, and on which she comments with characteristic perception and humour.

wonderful calc book for motivated

Had no experience in calc until freshman year, where I learned from this book. My teachers for Calc I and II both commented about how they felt this was the clearest most concise one variable book they'd taught from. Without a doubt, this book is taught at a very high level. The math isn't about manipulating equations, but building theoretical understanding and providing a solid background for future math study. My university offered two first year calc courses, and this book was used for the one which was intended for expected science/math majors. Through the semesters I spent a lot of time with this book, and while I haven't studied calc with any other real textbook, I have had nothing but great results from this book and would immediately recommend it. Just a word of warning, however; if you do not spend enough time with a text such as this, you will never be able to appreciate what distinguishes it from other books. Be prepared to take your time with the sections.

Not for LEARNING Calculus

I bought this book prior to signing up for a distance learning class, because I wanted to evaluate and ensure that I could actually learn from the book. After working with part of the book, I decided to take an on-campus course. This book does not teach calculus, it merely summarizes calculus, and it doesn't provide any information about the purpose of the concepts you're learning. The section problems are good though, so my methodology in using the book is to read pieces from several other books to grasp the concepts, skim the concepts in this book, then use the problems in this book to supplement my learning. BTW: The Solutions Guide is bad too, doesn't provide all steps in solving problems, only the ones pertinent to the current section. It should at least tell you something about the steps it left out.
I certainly don't recommend this book for the beginner, although in looking at books, I have yet to find a beginning calculus book that is good enough to be the basis of a distance learning class. Teachers/publishers if you're reading, here's your opportunity to fill a gaping hole.

Too complex for students first learning calculus

I am using this book in a 2 semester Calculus coarse and this books makes it A LOT harder then it should be. This book tends to over complicate simple concepts. I get the impression that the authors are trying to impress their fellow mathematicians rather than trying to teach Calculus to the student.
